What is it?

Eclipses happen four to seven times a year, within two “eclipse seasons”: solar eclipses at the new moon, lunar eclipses at the full moon. Tradition reads a solar eclipse as the seed of a new chapter, and a lunar eclipse as the moment something matures and becomes visible.

For couples

  • Pushing big decisions back a few days during eclipse week is a common suggestion in tradition; it is not a prohibition.
  • A solar eclipse can be a good time for a new shared intention; a lunar eclipse, for talking about something you want to finish or let go of.
  • If an eclipse’s degree is close to a point in your chart, the theme may feel more personal to you.

Frequently asked questions

Can you marry during an eclipse?

Tradition reads the days close to an eclipse as “don’t rush” for big beginnings; it is not a prohibition. If your date falls on an eclipse, you may also see it as a meaningful day to share.

What is the difference between a solar and a lunar eclipse?

A solar eclipse happens at the new moon, when the Moon passes in front of the Sun; a lunar eclipse happens at the full moon, when Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon. Tradition reads the first as a beginning and the second as ripening.

Does an eclipse affect my chart?

Tradition says that if an eclipse’s degree is close to a point in your birth chart, the theme is more personal for you. You can see this in the Relationship sky calendar.

Does it touch your chart?
